Dr. Syed Amir Ali is a distinguished Islamic banking professional with over two decades of experience spanning across finance, treasury, corporate and investment banking. He currently serves as President & CEO of Meezan Bank, Pakistan’s largest Islamic bank, where he provides strategic leadership focused on sustainable growth, corporate governance, and long-term value creation.
He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Pakistan Banks Association and serves on the boards of Al Meezan Investments and Meezan Exchange, contributing to the development and oversight of Pakistan’s Islamic financial ecosystem.
Dr. Ali joined Meezan Bank in 2006 in Investment Banking and later led the Corporate & Investment Banking Group. He served as President & CEO of BankIslami Pakistan from 2018 to 2023, where he successfully led a major turnaround. During his tenure, BankIslami’s profitability increased nearly 50 times, reflecting a comprehensive transformation in strategy, business operations, and financial performance.
Earlier in his career, he worked with A. F. Ferguson (member of PwC), Pakistan Refinery and Shell, gaining extensive experience across assurance, energy, and multinational environments.
Dr. Ali is a Harvard Business School alumnus, a CFA Charterholder, and a Chartered Accountant (Gold Medalist). He also holds PhD, MBA (Gold Medalist), and LLB degrees, and has completed a Certificate in Software Engineering, reflecting his interest in technology-driven financial innovation and digital transformation.
